Keyboard shortcuts

If you spend the day in the CRM, four shortcuts save a lot of clicking: ⌘K opens search, the question mark shows the shortcut list, and the G key followed by a letter jumps straight to an area. They stay off while you are typing in a field, so they never get in the way of data entry.

Taking your hand off the keyboard to find a menu item costs a few seconds, but repeated a hundred times a day it becomes half an hour. Shortcuts exist so you can cross the system without the mouse, and the full list is always one key away.

Seeing the list without leaving the screen

Press ? (question mark) on any screen, as long as the cursor is not inside a field.
A window shows each shortcut next to what it does.
Press ? again, press Esc, or click outside the window to close it.

The shortcuts

⌘K, or Ctrl+K: opens global search and the command palette.
?: opens and closes this shortcut list.
G then D: goes to the Dashboard.
G then O: goes to Opportunities.
G then A: goes to Activities.
G then C: goes to Contacts.
G then E: goes to Companies.
G then L: goes to Leads.
G then R: goes to Reports.
G then F: goes to Favorites.
G then M: goes to Marketing.
G then T: goes to Tickets.
Esc: closes the shortcut window and cancels a G that was left half finished.

How the G key works

G does nothing on its own: it announces that a destination is coming. When you press G, the message G… waiting for destination appears at the bottom of the screen, along with the letters it accepts. You have about one and two thirds of a second to press the letter; after that the sequence is cancelled and nothing happens. A letter that is not on the list also just cancels, without leaving the screen.

Example: The supervisor at Delta Parts starts the day by pressing G then D to open the Dashboard. He spots an odd number in the pipeline, presses G then O for Opportunities, and from there ⌘K to find the Prisma Metalworks account. Three fewer mouse moves per lookup, about forty lookups a day.

When the shortcuts do not respond

While the cursor is inside a text field, a text area, a picker or a content editor, the shortcuts are inactive on purpose, so you can type the letter g inside a name.
Combinations with Cmd, Ctrl or Alt are ignored, with one exception: ⌘K itself, which opens search.
If the destination is an area your role cannot see, the page reports the missing access exactly as it would if you had used the menu.

Common questions

Can I change the keys? No. The list is fixed and identical across the organization, which means you can teach one sequence to the whole team.
Does it work on a phone? These are keyboard shortcuts, so they apply on a computer. On a phone, use the navigation bar and the search button.
I pressed G and nothing happened. Either you took longer than the sequence allows, or the letter you chose is not on the list. Press ? to check the destinations.
