AI usage per person and credit limits

The AI usage screen shows how much artificial intelligence each person consumed during the month, in US dollars, and lets you set a monthly credit per person or per role. Once the credit is reached, that person's AI calls are refused until the month rolls over.

AI features cost money per use. Without visibility, the spend only shows up on next month's invoice, and without control a single person running experiments can burn the whole team's budget. This screen handles both sides: first it shows, then it limits.

Open Settings and click AI usage.

Spend per person

  1. Pick the Month in the selector at the top of the card.
  2. The table lists each person and the amount in Credits (US$) consumed in the period.
  3. The Total row closes out the month.

The amount shown is the price of the usage, in US dollars. No internal cost, margin or supplier information appears here. A line called Unattributed may show up: it groups the usage of older calls where the person responsible was not recorded.

Only usage on the system's AI key counts here. If your organization connected its own provider key, that consumption is not billed here and does not appear in this table.

Setting a monthly credit

  1. In the Monthly credit limits card, pick the Scope, either User or Role.
  2. Select the person or the role from the list.
  3. Enter the Monthly credit (US$).
  4. Save. The limit appears in the table below, with the Applies to column.

The two scopes coexist. If the person has a limit of their own and their role has one too, reaching either of them is enough for calls to be refused. Anyone with no limit configured is not limited.

Example: A company sets a $25 monthly credit for the Sales rep role and $120 for the person handling marketing content. On the 19th, a rep hits the $25 mark generating summaries in bulk: his next AI calls are refused with the limit notice, while the rest of the team and the marketing person keep working normally. On the 1st of the following month, everything resets to zero.

What exactly gets blocked

The limit is checked ahead of the AI calls the product makes, such as text generation, the assistant with tools, AI agents and image generation. On exceeding it, the person receives the AI limit reached message instead of the result.

An honest caveat: the check was built so that it never takes AI down because the check itself failed. If the usage query fails, the call goes through. Treat the credit as a budget brake on normal usage, and not as an absolute, auditable barrier.

Who can do this

  • Setting and removing limits requires permission to manage settings.
  • Viewing spend per person and the list of limits is available to any member of the organization who opens the screen, not only to administrators. If per-person consumption is sensitive information at your company, take that into account when you agree on who gets access to Settings.
💡 Raising the credit takes effect immediately: as soon as the new amount is saved, the person can use AI again in the same month, without waiting for the rollover.

Common questions

  • When does the limit reset? At the calendar month rollover.
  • Does removing the limit unblock right away? Yes. With no limit configured, the person stops being checked.
  • Why does this screen's total not match my invoice? This screen shows only the artificial intelligence metrics. The invoice covers the organization's entire usage.
