Family communication: one message, one person at a time
Sending to the family does not exist. A household is the father, the mother, the financial guardian and the student, and each one is resolved on their own: their language, their channel, their consent. The same notice goes out in Portuguese to the mother and in English to the father when that is how they are registered. Part of the Education vertical, optional and off until an admin turns it on.
The Education screen gains the Family communication block. You write the notice once and the system turns it into one message per person: every guardian and the student, each one in the language they read, on the channel they are reachable on, and only if they may be contacted at all.
Each person, not "the family"
Sending to the family does not exist, because a family is not a recipient. A household is the father, the mother, the financial guardian, the emergency contact and the student. The dispatch resolves each of them separately: the role they hold, the channel they are reachable on, the consent they gave and the language they read.
The language is decided per person, in this order:
- The preference recorded on that guardian's relationship with that student.
- The person's own language preference on their record.
- The school's language.
- English.
That is why the same notice goes out in Portuguese to the mother and in English to the father. Nothing about the notice changes: only the variant chosen for each reader.
Who never receives
A guardian under an active court restriction on communication does not receive. Not the weekly newsletter, not the report card, and not the emergency message either. That is deliberate and it cannot be overridden from the screen: a custody order is not a preference, and a screen that let someone in a hurry click past it would be worse than having no screen at all.
A student who is a minor is only contacted with parental consent on file. Without valid consent nothing goes out to them and the reason is recorded on the dispatch, so the difference between "it was not sent" and "it was sent and ignored" is always visible.
The cap counts per family, not per person
The limit on how many messages a household receives in a period is counted for the household, not for each recipient. If it were counted per person, a family with four registered guardians would get four times the limit, all of it about the same student, and would mark the school as spam among exactly the people it most needs to reach.
Quiet hours work the same way: outside the window you configured, an ordinary message waits for the window to open. Setting the cap to zero stops everything, with the single exception described below.
Emergency messages
A message marked critical, an evacuation, a lockdown, an accident with the school bus, ignores the family cap and the quiet hours, because a notice that arrives the next morning is not a notice. Everything it bypassed is recorded on the dispatch, so afterwards you can say exactly which limit was skipped and why.
What it never ignores is custody and consent. A restricted guardian stays out of the emergency dispatch too. Urgency changes the timing, it does not change who is allowed to be told.
The preview before sending
The preview writes nothing and sends nothing. It shows the dispatch exactly as it will happen: who receives, on which channel, in which language and, just as important, who does not receive and the reason for each exclusion.
- Write the notice and pick the student or the group it is about.
- Open the preview.
- Read the receiving list: person, role, channel and language.
- Read the excluded list: each line states the reason (communication restriction, missing consent, no channel, family cap, quiet hours).
- Fix whatever needs fixing, and only then send.
Translation
Translating the body of the notice produces one variant per language, stored alongside the notice. At dispatch, each person receives the variant for their language. If someone's language has no variant, the original text is used and the screen says so on that person's line: nobody is dropped in silence and nobody silently receives a language they do not read.
