Commission, rate parity and channels · statement, channel pricing and direct business

The Commission tab shows the statement for agencies and OTAs as a ledger that only ever takes new entries: a reversal is a new entry, and different currencies are never added together. The Rate parity tab compares the price each channel advertises with your direct price and shows what each channel actually leaves net. The OTA to direct play finds guests who arrived through a paid channel and are worth a direct offer.

Commission: a ledger that only takes entries

Agencies and OTAs are registered as trade accounts, with an IATA code and a default commission rate. On every channel booking, the commission is accrued as an entry; when the booking falls through, the amount is not edited or deleted: a reversal goes in, which is a new entry with the opposite sign. The Commission tab shows, for the account chosen in the Account selector, the Accrued, Reversed and Net totals plus the number of entries. Recording it this way is what makes the statement auditable: any number you see today can be rebuilt entry by entry. The statement involves channel money, so it is restricted to people who administer the organization.

When the period mixes currencies (an OTA that pays in USD and an agency that pays in BRL), the statement refuses to add everything into a single currency: the screen warns that there are different currencies and shows one line per currency, each with its own accrued, reversed and net. A single total would be an invented number.

Rate parity: who is advertising below your direct price?

The expensive question in distribution is always the same: is an indirect channel advertising your rate cheaper than your own direct channel? The Rate parity tab answers with a table of observed prices by channel: stay date, channel, channel price, direct price, the gap as a percentage and the verdict (In parity, Below direct, or No comparison when the direct reference is missing). The Violations only checkbox filters down to what matters. Price observations come in through the system API, recording the channel, the date, the amount and the source; the screen reads them. The gap is the actionable number: two prices side by side force you to do the arithmetic in your head, while the gap already tells you the size of the problem.

Channel attribution: the net decides

Below parity, Channel attribution shows, for each channel, the revenue, the commission, the Net, the channel cost as a percentage and the share. Gross revenue misleads: the channel that brings the most can be the one that keeps the least after commission. The net is what should decide where you invest.

Example: At the Lakeside Hotel, the OTA StarStay brought in USD 80,000.00 for the quarter at 18% commission (USD 65,600.00 net), while the direct site brought in USD 52,000.00 at almost no cost. On parity, three July stay dates come back with the verdict Below direct: StarStay advertised 6.5% cheaper. With the number in hand, the manager goes to the channel to correct the rate instead of arguing from impressions.

OTA to direct: turning a paid channel into a relationship

A guest who arrived through an OTA and has come back several times is the biggest margin lever the property has: every booking of theirs through a paid channel costs a commission that a direct booking would not. The system finds those candidates by calculating the real saving (the commission that would stop existing) and lets you record a direct offer with a discount that still costs less than the commission. The offer goes through the same messaging gate as the rest of the vertical: it respects consent and the moment in the stay, so the invitation does not turn into spam. This flow is run through the system API; the single guest profile (which recognizes the same guest across bookings from different channels) is what makes the arithmetic possible.

💡 The masked email an OTA generates never becomes a login channel or a direct offer channel: without a firm email from the guest there is no honest path to direct contact. Ask for the real email at check-in.
