Taxes (tax rules)
Set rates by product category and region/state; the tax is automatically added to proposals.
Under Settings → Taxes you define generic tax rules (no-code): a rate (%) that can apply to a product category, a region/state, both, or everything.
- Give the rate a free-form name (e.g., "Service tax" or "Sales tax").
- Choose the product category (or leave blank for all).
- Enter the region/state (or leave blank for all).
- Set the rate as a % and mark it as active.
When generating a proposal, each item gets the rate of the most specific ACTIVE rule that matches: category + region beats category, which beats region, which beats the general rule. With no matching rule, the tax is zero.
- The category comes from the item's product; the region/state comes from the opportunity's company.
- The tax is calculated on the value already including the proposal discount.
- The total tax is recorded on the proposal as a separate value (the pre-tax total does not change); the final value is total + tax.
💡 Generic examples: "5% service tax in region X" or "8% sales tax in state Y". The name is free-form, so it works for any country.
