Commissions: plans, automatic statements and approval
Create commission plans with a base rate, tiers by quota attainment and per-product rates, assign them to reps, and generate statements automatically from won opportunities. Approved and paid statements are immutable, and each rep sees only their own.
The "Commissions" page (side menu, under Sales) turns won deals into commission for each rep, with no spreadsheet. You set the rules once as a plan, assign the plan to your reps, and generate the statements for a period. Everything is calculated from the opportunities the reps have already won.
Create a commission plan
A plan holds the rules. The base rate is the percentage applied to the deal value. Optionally you can add tiers by attainment (the rate rises as the rep hits quota) and per-product rates (a fixed rate for a specific product that overrides the tier or base).
- Open Commissions and click New plan.
- Give it a name and set the base rate, for example 5%.
- Add tiers if you pay more for over-attainment, for example 8% from 100% of quota and 12% from 150%.
- Add per-product rates if a product pays differently.
- Save. Keep the plan Active so it can be assigned.
Assign the plan to reps
In the Assign plans section, pick a plan, a rep and an effective date. The statement always uses the plan in effect for the period. To change a rep's plan later, assign a new one with a more recent effective date.
Generate the statements
- Choose the period start and end (a month, for example).
- Click Generate. The system reads every opportunity WON in the period (by expected close date) and, for each rep with a plan in effect, creates a draft statement with one line per deal.
- For tiered plans, the rate uses the rep's attainment against their sales target for the period.
- When a deal is shared between reps through a commission split, each rep's base is their split share.
Approve and pay
A statement starts as a Draft. Regenerating the period replaces drafts only, so you can re-run it safely. When the numbers are right, Approve the statement, then Mark it as paid once payroll is done. An approved or paid statement is immutable: it is never edited or overwritten by a new run. If something needs fixing after approval, the correction is a new statement or adjustment, never an edit.
